Ensuring A Worry-Free Vacation

Because we care about your vacation investment, The Moorings offers charter care protection.

Our CharterCare Protection Program protects you from financial loss if for some reason you must cancel or delay your charter. A small fee ensures you may resume or reschedule your vacation at a later date in the event of family illness, jury duty, etc., or if your trip is interrupted. It also provides some medical coverage should you become ill or injured during your Moorings charter. This insurance is optional; however, it may protect you from financial loss should you cancel or reschedule your charter. We recommend you consider including it in your charter contract. For more information, please read the details provided below or contact one or our Vacation Planning Specialists.

When you confirm your reservation with your initial deposit, The Moorings will send complete details of our CharterCare policy along with the other documentation for your charter. You will have the option at that time to accept or decline the coverage offered. The cost of CharterCare coverage is automatically added to your Vacation Estimate Of Costs as calculated on this website to indicate what the total cost of your coverage will be.

Charter Care Protection Q&A

Why should I purchase CharterCare?
Preparing for your charter includes protecting yourself from unfortunate occurrences that threaten to interfere with even your best-laid plans. By purchasing CharterCare, you can help protect yourself against cancellation penalties, medical costs, baggage loss and delays, as well as gain access to a wide range of traveler’s assistance services.

I purchased my airfare separately from my charter. Will I still have coverage for airline cancellation fees?
Yes. The Trip Cancellation benefit provided by CharterCare includes coverage for flights joining and departing your charter.

When is payment for CharterCare due and how do I enroll?
For your convenience, we will add the plan cost on our charter invoice and include it in the balance due. Simply pay the amount indicated on your travel invoice inclusive of this plan cost. You are enrolled upon The Mooring's receipt of payment for the applicable plan cost, in addition to any required trip deposits and/or final balances.

When does coverage go into effect and will it cover me for the entire length of my charter?
The Trip Cancellation coverage takes effect upon receipt of the required plan cost by The Moorings. All other benefits will take effect at 12:01 A.M. on your scheduled departure date and location. Your coverage will remain valid until 11:59 P.M. of your scheduled completion date or your return to you origination point as stated on your tickets, whichever is earlier. Please see the Plan Description for detailed information.

What happens if I need to cancel my charter?
Please contact The Moorings and BerkelyCare as soon as possible in the event of a claim, as CharterCare will not pay benefits for any additional charges incurred due to a delay in notifying The Moorings of your cancellation. BerkelyCare will then forward you the appropriate claim form in order to file a claim.

What happens if my Skipper cancels their trip but I still want to travel?
CharterCare will pay additional costs as a result of a change in Skipper if your Skipper cancels for a covered reason under CharterCare and you choose to replace him/her with a Skipper provided by The Moorings.

What if bad weather is predicted where I plan to travel? Will CharterCare cover me if I cancel my charter?
Please note that there is no coverage for trip cancellation in the event of inclement weather (actual or predicted). However, in the event that inclement weather causes a delay in your arrival to the charter or on your return home, coverage is provided under the Trip Delay benefit.
